Today we have over 75 volunteers donating almost 17,000 hours last year to the success of the operations. Every volunteer is screened, trained in operations and poverty awareness and most are trained in Safe Food Handling. Our volunteers come from many backgrounds and we do our best to leverage their many skills to the benefit of our operations.
Our volunteers have done everything from driving as far away to Toronto to pick up pork orders because it was cost saving, to running bingos starting as late as 10:30 p.m., organizing book sales to coordinating and running the once upon a time annual canoe races. The list is endless on what we have done to raise money to purchase healthy food items for our citizens in a time of need. The annual Beaver Lumber BBQs became a tradition over the years, baseball tournaments, car washes, grocery tapes, donation jars in the stores along with food drive bin barrels and raffles were common fundraisers to list a few more.
We started at 78 Centennial back in the day and out grew our space. On June 3, 2002 our volunteers came together like a farming bee and moved our warehouse to 25 Centennial Road, Unit 5 / 6 where we are still currently located. .
