The Orangeville Food Bank (OFB) was founded in 1992 and the founders are still part of the volunteering team today. The OFB is completely volunteer driven with 70 regular volunteers and many more during the holidays with church and community service groups and sports teams. The OFB is a member of the Ontario Association of Food Banks, one of the organizations in the Food Banks Canada network.
The Orangeville Food Bank is an Emergency Food bank. With our new Shopping Model clients are able to come in and spend their food points for the month through a single visit or over multiple visits. Whether in a single visit or multiple visits a client will receive approximately 30 lbs foods per person in their family group for a month. We are open three shifts each week for client shopping.
In our last fiscal year we served 4500 people – approximately 1150 families and 500 singles - an increase of 7% in family use over the previous year. There is a myth of ongoing dependency in food bank use but over half of our clients, 66%, came 1-3 times over the year and less than 6% of total clients were repeat visitors in the range of 10-12 times over the year. In our last year we took in 141,000 pounds in community donations, local grocery bin collections and food drives as well as from our OAFB hub in Waterloo.
Thank you to all of our generous community supporters!
